It is with deep sadness that the Kingsway Football and Sporting Club announces the passing of life member Raymond “Ray” Okley, a remarkable player, coach, and pillar of our club. Ray’s dedication to the sport and to the club spanned over a decade, leaving a legacy that will be remembered for generations.
Ray played approximately 130 games for Wanneroo, now known as Kingsway, between 1957 and 1967. His talent and sportsmanship were recognized early, winning the South Midlands Football Association Fairest and Best award in 1957, and later the Sunday National Football League Fairest and Best medal in both 1961 and 1962. At the club level, Ray’s extraordinary consistency and skill earned him the League Fairest and Best award six consecutive times from 1957 to 1962, and he was also honored with the Reserves Fairest and Best in 1966.
Beyond his achievements on the field, Ray served as League coach from 1957 to 1961, guiding and inspiring his teammates with dedication, insight, and leadership. In recognition of his exceptional contribution to the club, he was awarded life membership in 1964, a testament to the lasting impact he had both on and off the field.
Ray was not only an accomplished athlete but also a mentor, leader, and cherished member of the Kingsway community. His passion for football, unwavering commitment, and genuine character set a standard for all who followed in his footsteps.
The Kingsway Football and Sporting Club extends our heartfelt condolences to Ray’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. His contributions, dedication, and spirit will be forever remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire the club and its members for years to come.
Rest in peace, Ray. You will be deeply missed.
