Belmont Cragin Sidewalk Robbery Incident Chicago

Chicago police are investigating an armed robbery and shooting that left a woman injured Monday night in the city’s Belmont Cragin neighborhood.

The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. in the 5700 block of West Diversey Avenue. According to police, an unknown suspect approached a 28-year-old woman on the sidewalk, displayed a firearm, and demanded her belongings.

Authorities said the suspect took the victim’s property before striking her with the weapon. During the encounter, the suspect fired multiple shots, hitting the woman in the buttocks and ankle.

Emergency responders transported the victim to Loyola Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.

The suspect fled the scene, and no description has been released at this time. It is unclear whether the attacker fled on foot or used a vehicle.

Area detectives are actively investigating the incident and are working to gather additional information, including any available surveillance footage or witness statements.

Police have not yet announced any arrests or identified a suspect. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
